Composting
What if we could make something useful out of our food waste?
Oh wait... we can!
Composting is a process of decomposing plant and food waste and recycling organic materials, this includes:
all food waste (coffee grounds, lettuce, potato/carrot peels, banana peels, avocado skins)
paper tea bags
cardboard
tree leaves
black & white newspaper
wood shavings or sawdust
hair & fur
aquarium plants
herbs & spices
- unpopped/burnt popcorn
Is there anything that should not be composted? Of course!
meat & fish
dairy, fats, oils
plants or wood treated with pesticides or preservatives
diseased or insect-infested plants
charcoal ash
dog/cat waste
disposable nappies
cooked food
Home composting is the most environmentally-friendly way of dealing with kitchen and garden waste, plus it produces compost that can be used as an excellent soil improver.
